Dog Parks in Hampton Roads “Just to Name a Few”

The polls are in.  According to Today, more than 50% of households in America have pets.  Of those, 74% have dogs.  Mine is one of them.

I thought it would be fitting to make a list dedicated to all of those dogs and make a list of dog parks in Hampton Roads.  If you know of any that I missed, feel free to send me an email so I can add to this list!
Please note I am only going to write something about some of these as I’m not particularly familiar with them all.  If you know anything about these dog parks or have pictures of your pooch at any of them and would like to have them featured here, please feel free to send me an email and I would be happy to include your contribution.  Now onto the fun!

Chesapeake
Disclaimer: Chesapeake requires membership and animal licensing for use of city dog parks.  You can find more info here.

Chesapeake City Dog Park
900 City Park Dr, Chesapeake VA 23320
This dog park is great, there are two enclosures here, one of bigger dogs and one for smaller dogs.  There is lots of room to run and plenty of shade and sun.

Deep Creek Dog Park
437 George Washington Hwy S, Chesapeake VA 23323
This dog park is HUUUGE!  It boasts 1 ½ acres of running space for your doggo. There is so much room, your pooch won’t know what to do!  Except run, and run, and play, and jump and run!

Elizabeth River Park
1400 Elizabeth River Way, Chesapeake VA 23324
Slightly smaller than the other dog parks, but still a great location with a beautiful view.

Western Branch Dog Park
4437 Portsmouth Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23321
This is the smallest one of all at .5 acres (still not too shabby) but is heavily shaded which helps on those HOT Virginia days.

Norfolk

Bea Arthur Dog Park
501 Front St. Norfolk VA 23510
This park is unique in the fact that it is gated with access to the harbor down in Ghent.  If your dog loves to swim, they will no doubt love Bea Arthur Dog Park.  There is a small doc landing just for pups with a ramp for easy accessibility out of the water for your furry friend.  They also have a kiddi pool water fountain, and a toy box for all the visiting pooches! This Park is facilitated and made possible by PETA, you can check out their live feed of the park and get more info here.

The Beaches of Virginia Beach
You pick where (just follow the rules)
We are so lucky to live in an area that is dog friendly.  Virginia Beach welcomes pups onto their beaches within guidelines, CLICK HERE for those.  In off-peak seasons, during spring, fall and winter dogs are allowed on any area of the beach or boardwalk on leash.  They are allowed off leash on the beaches so long as they have good voice recall.
What continues to make this possible is responsible dog ownership.  Not every dog is friendly to strangers, or other animals or even children if they haven’t been socialized to do so.  That is okay, just know your dog’s limitations and act from that knowledge.  Thanks!
